Matt Hughes Talks About Koscheck

matt-hughes-ufc-talks-josh-koscheck-ufc-103-mmaAs reporter by many MMA media outlets today, Matt Hughes has responded to Josh Koscheck calling him out at UFC 103: Franklin vs. Belfort on his blog.
“I find Koscheck calling me out kind of interesting and I actually don’t know why he is doing that. I was used to kids doing this when I was the champ, but as you know I don’t have the belt now and I’m puzzled as to why Koscheck wants to fight me and not the champion in the weight class. I have no interest in fighting Koscheck and, as he was showing everybody, he’s just a kid. As of yet, the UFC has never come to me and asked me to fight him.”

As you read, Hughes is puzzled as to why Koscheck wants to fight him. I could think of a reason or two as to way Koscheck wants to pound on Matt Hughes head, can you?

The way I see it, calling Koscheck a kid is fighting words and Hughes knows he can’t win this fight by simply laying on top of his opponent. Therefore Hughes won’t be signing on the dotted line to take on Koscheck.

Do I smell chicken, or duck?

Rashad Evans Wants Thiago Silva

Like any bad break up it’s time to move on and that’s exactly what Rashad Evans is doing now that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has retired.

Evans talked to MMA Fanhouse’s Michael David Smith and stated that he would like Thiago Silva to be his next opponent.

“Thiago Silva is a good fighter, I’d like to fight him and I think he wants to fight me,” Evans said. “When I saw him after he fought Keith Jardine, he kind of gave me a nasty look that I interpreted like he wanted to take me on, and I’d like that.”

Thiago Silva (14-1) recently defeated Keith Jardine via knockout at UFC 102. Silva was coming off of a first round knockout loss to Lyoto Machida at UFC 94.

Rashad Evans (13-1-1) hasn’t fought since UFC 98 where he lost his light heavyweight title to Lyoto Machida.

It would be interesting to see what the UFC would do with the winner of this potential bout as both fighters have been knocked out by Lyoto Machida. Machida is set to defend his belt at UFC 104 against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

Roger Huerta Still Wants to Remain the UFC

roger-huerta-ufc-mexicoLightweight Roger Huerta, who finished out his UFC contract last Wednesday at UFC Fight Night 19 with a loss to Gray Maynard, says he’s again focused on fighting following back-to-back losses and is willing to return to the UFC.

“I think it could have gone either way and it’s my fault I let it go to the judges and I can’t go out like that,” Huerta recently told Sherdog. “I can’t go out with two losses in a row. I don’t think I’m going to call it quits anytime soon. I’m still open to acting. Hopefully we get something going with that, but I’m not going to prioritize (acting) now. If the UFC wants me back, I’d be willing to go back.”

Prior to his losses to Kenny Florian and Maynard, Huerta had a 16-straight winning streak, including UFC victories over Leonard Garcia and Clay Guida.

Dana White: “Rampage is Acting like a Baby”

UFC President Dana White today appeared on the Carmichael Dave Show to respond to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson’s Tuesday announcement that he was “done fighting” to pursue a full-time acting career, saying that the popular former light heavyweight champ is “acting like a baby” but is free to do what he wants.

Here’s what White had to say:
51226766
Rampage is a grown man. He’s acting like a baby right now, but he’s a grown man. If he wants to be in the movie business, Rampage, good luck to you, man. I hope he makes it big, and I’m not being sarcastic. … I hope the movie thing works out for him. If that’s what he truly wants to do, and that’s what he feels and that’s what he thinks his career is, I wish him all the luck in the world.”

I just found out, too. Rampage has been a friend of ours. We really like Rampage. I’m not going to get into the battle of who’s done what for who and all that stuff. We’ve done a lot for him and yes, he’s been there and fought. The guys who come in here, they’re fighters. That’s what they do. We give them fights and they fight. And they make money and we make money. That’s the way it works.

I got so pissed off. I’m speaking my mind, he thinks I’m trying to ruin his movie career.

He’s a grown man. He can do whatever he wants to do.

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson Quits MMA

rampage-jackson-quits-ufcsFormer UFC light heavyweight champ Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has announced on his official website that he’s “done fighting”:

The UFC has done a lot for me but I think I have done more for them. The UFC bought WFA to get my contract & they saved my life, so I felt loyal to them. They pushed me into a fight with Chuck Liddel even when I clearly stated I wasn’t ready to fight for the belt because the American fans didn’t know me but I took the fight and didn’t complain & after I won the American fans booed me for the first time which changed the way I saw them & it hurt me deeply.

Then before I can even get out of the cage they announced that I was fighting Dan Henderson without even asking me. After I beat Dan Henderson, I made history in becoming the first undisputed champion in MMA but was never even given the pride belt in the cage & I was never promoted as the undisputed champ. Later Anderson Silva was.

Then they had me coach TUF season 7 and fight Forrest and the fight was very controversial & normally when a fight is that close & controversial there is normally an instant replay. I can name a couple of instances. Instead they offered me the Vanderlei Silva fight which I gladly accepted even though I know it was a very risky fight for me to take because of all the drama that was happening to me at the time. I fought that fight with a jaw injury and then a couple weeks later Dana called me and asked me to fight Rashad. For the first time I said no, I didn’t want to fight because it was such short notice & I wouldn’t have had a long break between camp. Dana talked me into fighting Rashad anyway but Rashad refused the fight and so I had to fight Jardine as a favor to the UFC instead of getting my belt back (which wasn’t even worth it to me financially).

Then I reinjured my jaw in the fight with Vanderlei & Jardine. Frank Mir gets hurt so they wanted to switch my fight from UFC 100 to the fight Frank couldn’t make it to but I couldn’t fight cause I needed jaw surgury. So they give Machida the fight against Rashad & they told me they want me to coach TUF season 10 against Rashad. That’s why I wanted Rashad to win so bad but when Rashad got knocked out I told them I wanted to fight Machida for the belt but Dana told me if I coach TUF against Rashad that I could fight Machida afterwards cause this was a different type of ultimate fighter show they were doing. After I signed the contract Dana then changes his mind & says I have to fight Rashad & even told me what to say in the press & so my fans think I was scared to fight Machida. After all that I still never complained & I did it all.

Then this movie role came about that I have been trying to get for over a year & as soon as I found out I was close to getting it, I called Dana right away & asked to push the Memphis fight back just a month or so. I told him what this movie role meant to me. I told him that I used to bond with my father watching the tv show as a kid when my parents where still married & it represents the memories I had with my father when we lived together. My dad became an alcohalic & addicted to drugs & we grew apart. But after my dad got his life back together, I was so proud of my dad & I told him I would always take care of him in the future & make him proud of me. My dad & I are still very big fans of the show & I am basically doing this for the childhood memories I had spending time in front of the tv with my dad. Dana went on the internet & mocked me because of that & I still did nothing. Dana & I finally talked & we made up & then after that he went back on the internet & said some bullshit & he was talking bad about the movie when information is not even supposed to be released & talking about payments which is not even true could really hurt my future acting career, which could very well last longer than my fighting career. I’m not like Randy Couture. My body has been getting so many different injuries that I wont be able to fight until my forties & neither do I want to fight that long. So I feel like my second career could be in jeopardy.. so I’m done fighting. I’ve been getting negative reviews from the dumb ass fans that don’t pay my bills or put my kids though college. So I’m hanging it up. I’m gonna miss all my loyal fans but hopefully they’ll follow me to my new career & I will gain more loyal fans along the way. & all you hater fans out there can kiss my big black hairy ass! & anybody that don’t like what I just said can come try to kick my ass!

I still feel the UFC is a great organization and I felt like I was very loyal to them but they didn’t respect my loyalty but I wish the UFC the best. I did a lot of things for them. I wish no bad blood between us but I have kids & a family back in Memphis to provide for & thats all that matters to me!

Jackson and UFC President Dana White had been on the outs over “Rampage” accepting a role in the upcoming “A-Team” movie that forced the postponement of his matchup against fellow TUF 10 coach and rival Rashad Evans, though White said following Saturday’s UFC 103 event that they had “made up”.

Whether Jackson is serious and will follow through on his vow to stop fighting remains to be seen, but his latest blog post points to the relationship between the UFC and Jackson being very much in jeopardy.

Let the discussion begin, but stay tuned to Fightburger.com for further updates on this story…

Frank Trigg Will Stay in the UFC (for now)

Frank-twinkle-toes-trigg-ufcYesterday we reported that welterweight Frank Trigg would soon be cut from the UFC following his UFC 103 loss to Josh Koscheck. As it turns out, that will not be the case, and Trigg will indeed get another fight in the UFC. According to a report from MMAJunkie, the Veteran fighter has spoken with the UFC and they have agreed to give him another bout.

In regards to possibly being cut, Trigg told MMAJunkie that when he signed on to fight Koscheck, “They basically said, ‘If you lose, we have to keep you for one more fight since Josh is a top-five guy and it’s such a tough fight. That’s why I was so surprised that Dana said that I was being cut.”

Trigg is a veteran fighter with a 19-7 record, who in his previous stint with the UFC went 2-3, including two losses to Matt Hughes in title challenges. He was cut from the organization following back to back losses to Matt Hughes, and Georges St. Pierre in 2005. He went on to put together a 7-2 record after being released from the UFC, earning his way to Saturday night’s match up.

Following the news Monday that he may be cut, Trigg stated via his Twitter account, “If the UFC cuts me, I’m done fighting. I don’t have the strength or determination to go fight in the minor leagues anymore. I’ve done it before. I didn’t come back here for one fight … so I could say I retired as a UFC fighter. I came back to make a run at a title fight. I want to fight. But if they’re done with me, that’s it.”
