DREAM 12 which took place on October 25, 2009 in Osaka, Japan was marked with the events first time using a hexagon cage. Fights also consisted of three five-minute rounds as used by most mixed martial arts organizations, though elbows remained illegal.

Surprisingly with Dream 12 only a few day from being held, the card is not fully confirmed as the organizers are yet to confirm a opponent for Heavy Weight Alistair Overeem. Rumours are circling that English man James Thompson will face Overeem at the Osaka Castle Hall on the 25th of October.

The event which will feature a experimental flavour as the fights are set to take place in a hexagon shaped cage dubbed as the “White Cage”. Also three five minute rounds will replace the traditional first ten minute round and second five minute round.

DREAM delived a outstanding card tonight with a top notch production which has no rival, the DREAM promotion has arrived! DREAM 11 which was held on the 6th of October 2009 saw some epic fights and some upsets as highly rated Joe Warren bombed out to Bibiano Fernandes in the semi final. Also Choi Hong-man who was the heavy favourite to easily beat Ikuhisa Minowa lost as the crowd favourite “Minowaman” pulled of a stellar performance and pulled off a fight winning heel hook in round 2 to move onto the Super Hulk Tournament final at Dynamite later in the year against Sokoudjou.

Kazushi Sakuraba vs Rubin Williams Added To Dream 11

It has just been annouced on very short notice that Japanese MMA legend Kazushi Sakuraba will fight on the Dream 11 card. It is now known that Sakuraba’s next opponent will be Rubin Williams who appeared on Season 3 of the boxing reality TV series The Contender which aired in 2007. Williams was eliminated in the first episode of the series.

This will be Sakuraba’s first fight since his lose at Dynamite!! 2008 which was held on December 31, 2008.

Dream 11 will be held at the Yokohama Arena in Kanagawa, Japan on the 6th of October.

Dream 12: The White Cage

After decades of ring action, Dream will officially introduce Japanese MMA fans to the world of the cage. The organization will debut “The White Cage” for their Dream.12 event on October 25th.

Dream had previously stated they had a “surprise” for their fans and have just dropped the bomb after months of teasing. DREAM.12 will take place in a six-sided fenced surface, similar to the UFC’s Octagon but with two less sides.

Thus far, nine participants will be competing at “Cage of the Rising Sun,” including lightweight sensation Eddie Alvarez, Paulo Filho, Katsunori Kikuno, Yoshiro Maeda, Andrews Nakahara, Alistair Overeem, Kiyoshi Tamura and Marius Zaromskis.

Potential opponents for the nine participants were not revealed.

DREAM.12 will mark the second of two October shows for the company as DREAM.11 is slated for October 6th and features the organization’s “Super Hulk” tourney, as well as the finals of their Featherweight Grand Prix.

Both events are expected to air on HDNet in North America, however no official word on if they will be live or not.

Talks of Eddie Alvarez Vs. Katsunori Kikuno in DREAM

Eddie Alvarez ventured off of the big stage at DREAM to the fairly indistinct Bellator Fighting Championships after proving himself a standout amongst the top lightweight competitors outside of the UFC, winning their LW championship with three consecutive submission wins.

Bellator FC made MMA news last week when they announced their intention to continue focusing on the tournament format and to expect Bellator FC fighters to make appearances in other organizations, and, hot on the heels of this news, MMAWeekly has learned of the potential pairing of Alvarez back in DREAM against the former DEEP champion Katsunori Kikuno.

Kikuno made a splash with his DREAM debut by crippling Andre “Dida” Amade with his signature crescent kick and following up with a cycle of brutal punches for the 1st round TKO win. He is a very calculating and methodical fighter with an odd stance, but consistently employs unorthodox (yet effective) striking in unison with powerful Judo from the clinch and solid ground-n-pound. He is a 12-1-1 fighter and one of the rising suns in Japan.

This will be quite an interesting combat-comparison to Alvarez’ crisp boxing and strong wrestling game. Both fighters throw heavy blows on the feet complimented by a strong top game on the ground, and have something to prove in the world lightweight scene

Gegard Mousasi on Beating Babalu

“There was some pressure coming into the fight because it was my first fight in the US, but I trained hard for it and I was very comfortable and confident in the ring. I wanted to fight stand-up with him but I knew he would go for the clinch. I didn’t want to give him any advantage so I knew when I could take him down, I would, [and] I had the chance so I took it. After 1-2 rights I felt he was a little bit dizzy, so I gave him some more — for better results.”

Gegard Mousasi on beating Rentato Sobral at the August 15 ‘Carano vs. Cyborg’ event in San Jose for the Strikeforce light heavyweight belt. Mousasi, who now brings is record up to 26-2-1 is on a thirteen fight win streak. His next opponent will be Sokoudju at Dream 12’s Super Hulk Tournament. Sokudju may be a tough opponent for the Armenian, though I doubt he is the same calibre. After Gegards next fight, I’m sure many fans will be asking what kind of 205 pound competition is really out there for him outside of the UFC?
