Dana White: “Brett Rogers Might Knock Him Out”

61_dana_white_mma_ufc_newsAlthough most won’t admit it, there’s a chance that Fedor Emelianenko’s 26-fight winning streak might come to an end tomorrow inside the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. One person that isn’t gun-shy about speaking his mind is UFC president Dana White, who recently stated it could be a short night for the Russian if he’s not careful.

“You know what scares me about the Brett Rogers fight? Brett Rogers might knock him out,” White recently said during an interview with Fanhouse. “[Fedor] isn’t getting any younger, he hasn’t really been that active, he’s not the most physically fit guy you’ll ever see, and this guy Brett Rogers could end up clipping him, and then what does that mean?”

The only reason White is so concerned with his rival’s highly anticipated “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers ” show is because they’re hosting a fight that most MMA fans would prefer not to see. White maintains that his organization houses the world’s top heavyweight champion in Brock Lesnar, and that is where Team Fedor needs to head if they intend to legitimize their fighter’s legacy in the eyes of the mixed martial arts world.

“I just think it’s terrible. I think that Fedor should be fighting Brock [Lesnar], that’s what I think,” White added. “That’s the fight that should be happening. If the media and fans and anybody, anybody has the perception that this guy’s the best fighter in the world, he should be fighting the other best fighter in the world.”

White also mentioned that it wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing if Emelianenko were to keep his nearly nine-year winning streak alive. In fact, it would be much better for the UFC down the road, assuming he eventually agrees to fight inside an Octagon, if Fedor can maintain his aura of invincibility.

“The reality is, I hope that Buck (Brett) Rogers doesn’t knock him out,” White stated. “Because I want to get Fedor in the UFC. I want to see him fight Brock Lesnar.”

Wouldn’t we all, Dana …

Major Names Added To Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers

strikeforce-fedor-vs-rogers-gegard-mousasi-insideThe main event may not be well received by many in the mixed martial arts universe, but Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers will be arriving soon and it has had some fire power added to the main event by the addition of some major names.

While Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers and the Stirkeforce Middleweight Championship bout between Jake Shields and Jason Miller have been previously confirmed sometime ago for the main event, Strikeforce have now announced two more solid fights for their November card.

The Current Strikeforce Light Heavy Weight Champion Gegard Mousasi returns to fight on American soil after easily defeating then Champion Renato “Babalu” Sobral in August. Mousasi will face off against “The African Assassin” Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou in a non-championship fight; therefore the belt won’t be on the line.

Also added to the main event is a heavy weight bout between Fabricio Werdum and Antonio Silva. Whichever Brazilian leaves the cage victorious, it can be ensured that he will be in contention for a title shot after the winner of Emelianenko vs. Rogers.

Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers will be broadcasted live on CBS on November 7 2009 for the Sears Centre, Illinois.

Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers Official Card:

Rogers v Fedor Set for November the 7th

ESPN’s MMA Live tweetedd that Brett Rogers and Fedor Emelianenko will fight on November 7th on CBS. They will be apart of a four-fight event.

Rogers (10-0) vs. Emelianenko (30-1) was first announced in August though there was no fight date or venue attached to that announcement.

Both Brett Rogers and Fedor Emelianenko are coming off of first round knock out victories over former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski. Fedor was suppose to fight Josh Barnett at Affliction: Trilogy though that fight fell through due to Barnett failing a pre-fight drug test.

It had been previously rumored that Rogers and Fedor would meet on October 10th. Joss Gross had previously reported that November 6th was a possible date.

Michael David Smith is reporting that Gegard Mousasi, Jake Shields, Mayhem Miller and Cris Cyborg will be on the fight card. If these four fighters are apart of the four-fight televised card than we can assume that Miller will be fighting Shields in November.

Loretta Hunt of sherdog is also reporting that the Sears Centre in Chicago, Illinois is the current venue front runner.

Mousasi on Filho: “He is a Little Donkey”

Newly crowned Strikeforce LHW champion Gegard Mousasi has not taken kindly to comments made from Brazilian Paulo Filho in this Tatame interview. Filho stated:

“I wanna fight Mousasi and show that with against me is a whole different thing… he doesn’t have my strength, he doesn’t have my level on the ground. He can be a better striker, but he doesn’t have my strength and he’ll go down once and be submitted. He’s well trained, but I don’t think he’s healthy enough to beat me… If he wins, I don’t even want my salary. But I guarantee he’ll be beaten more than he was against (Akihiro) Gono.”

Mousasi pulls no punches in his response to Filho in a video from Fighters.com. Mousasi calls Filho a “little donkey”, claims he is on steroids, and blames Filho’s odd mental state and unwillingness to fight Chael Sonnen was on account that Filho couldn’t “use his magic stuff”.

So, in summary according to Mousasi; Paulo Filho is a little donkey who thinks he’s a horse but is actually a little pony, who “uses magic stuff”.

Gina Carano to Star in Major Film

Gina-carano-major-movieGina Carano, fresh off her first career loss to Cris “Cyborg” at an August 15 Strikeforce event, will star in the upcoming spy thriller “Knockout” before returning to the cage, Variety reports:

“”Knockout” casts Carano as a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who is given a second chance to use her skills for constructive purposes. The film is a closer cousin to “La Femme Nikita” and “Kill Bill” than “Million Dollar Baby,” in that it doesn’t take place in the fight ring. Rather, [director Steven] Soderbergh considers the film as a flat out action film in the James Bond mold, and will shoot in locations around the world that include Ireland, Turkey and the U.S.

Soderbergh will surround Carano will name actors in supporting roles.”

The announcement is the latest mainstream success for Carano, who is known as the “Face of Women’s MMA,” having previously appeared on the remake of American Gladiators on NBC and ranking #16 on Maxim’s Hot 100 list.

Soderbergh is an Academy Award-winning director whose films include Traffic and Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen.

Production for the film is slated to begin in January, sidelining Carano until mid-2010 at the earliest.

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers Slated for October 10 in New Jersey

brett-rogers-vs-fedorAn upcoming Strikeforce event headlined by Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers (pictured) could take place on October 10 in New Jersey, according to ESPN’s MMA Live.

Emelianenko’s Strikeforce debut was originally rumored for October, but Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker announced last month that it was instead expected to take place in November. It now appears, however, that the fight is again slated for October, giving the top heavyweights about six-weeks prepare for the bout since it was announced in late-August.

Emelianenko (30-1) brings a 26-fight win streak into the contest that includes a reign as the heavyweight champion of PRIDE as well as back-to-back victories over Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski in his most-recent fights.

Like Emelianenko, Rogers (10-0) is also coming off a first-round knockout of the former UFC heavyweight champion Arlovski. “Grim” defeated Abongo Humphrey in April in his Strikeforce debut and previously won three-straight fights in EliteXC.

A venue was not revealed for the possible date, and it is not yet clear whether the UFC will attempt to organize a card to counter-program the Showtime-televised event.

Fedor: “I have Nothing to Prove”

Taken from a recent interview with Fedor:
“Brett Rogers is a very strong opponent. He is a great opponent. And he has a really very heavy knockout punch. I do not read all the rumors and gossip that is published on the Internet. To tell you the truth, the offer from the UFC was not really the worthy one. And if they are able to give us a really good offer then maybe [one day] we could agree. Frankly speaking, when I am in the cage or ring I don’t feel like I have to prove something. There are a lot of people around me who feel I do, but I don’t think so. When I come into the ring or cage the only thing I’m thinking about is is Russia (and representing it). So I don’t think that I need to prove anything.”

Recent Strikeforce acquisition and the last man to hold the PRIDE FC heavyweight title, Fedor Emelianenko, doesn’t feel he has anything to prove, even if those around him do. Which is a little disappointing to say the least. It seems has Fedor may care more about his money than his legacy or his fans. You would be hard-pressed to find an MMA fan right now that wouldn’t want to see the Emelianenko in the Octagon. However, the reigning World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts (WAMMA) heavyweight champion next faces the heavy-handed Brett Rogers in what will be the Russian’s Strikeforce debut. Rogers is fresh off a devastating 22-second knockout of former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski, which pushed his record to 10-0. Does he have enough weapons to take out “The Last Emperor” who is riding a 26 fight win streak? I sincerely doubt it. If we learn anything from this fight, it will be that Fedor is in the wrong place.
