Fedor and M1 to Sue Affliction

fedor-emelianenko-ufc-m1MMA Payout breaks the news that M-1 Global and Fedor Emelianenko have brought a legal suit against Affliction Clothing for breach of contract.

Plaintiff is informed, believes, and based thereon alleges Affliction intended to sign Brett Rogers to fight in Affliction: Trilogy and intended to go forward with the event if the UFC deal failed, but intended to cancel [the event] if the UFC deal closed. Brett Rogers was ready, willing, and able to fight Emelianenko in [the event], but instead of honoring its promises to Emelianenko and M-1 by signing Rogers, Affliction elected to serve its own financial interests at the expense of its partners.

MMA Payout also points out that the legal brief reveals certain facts about Fedor’s contract, such as, “[receiving] 300,000 per bout plus travel and accommodations expenses from Affliction in addition to a “substantial” payment from M-1.”

It will be interesting to see how this plays out as it will hopefully reveal more of the inner workings behind Affliction’s decision to pull the plug on the “Trilogy” fight card and subsequent “partnership” with Zuffa.

Affliction: Trilogy was sent into a tailspin when main event fighter, Josh Barnett, tested positive for steroids and was denied a license by the CSAC. Affliction attempted to find a new opponent for Fedor but opted to cancel the event and fold the promotion
