Fightburger.com can now verify that Brazilian welterweights Paulo Thiago and Thiago Alves will fight at UFC 107 at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee, on Dec. 12.
In a battle of the Thiagos, “The Pitbull” is looking to rebound from a five round unanimous decision loss to current welterweight champ, George St. Pierre at UFC 100. The defeat snapped a seven-fight win streak that saw him finish top-ranked opponents Matt Hughes and Karo Parisyan, as well as outpoint Josh Koscheck on all three judges’ scorecards at UFC 90 in October of 2008.
Paulo Thiago also fought Josh Koscheck and Jon Fitch — although with different results.
The relatively unknown Brazilian Paulo, stunned the division with a TKO stoppage over Josh Koscheck at UFC 95: “Sanchez vs. Stevenson” in his Octagon debut last January. Followed by a decision loss to Koscheck’s teammate to Jon Fitch at UFC 100.
This will be Paulos third fight in the UFC and third fight against at top 10 welterweight in the span of the year. For reasons unknown, Joe Silva must HATE Paulo.
Also, UFC 107 xpected to feature a 155-pound bout between current lightweight champion BJ Penn and Diego “Nightmare” Sanchez, as well as a heavyweight showdown between former champion Frank Mir and Cheick Kongo – although, with reason banter between Nogueria and Mir, there could be a possible rematch between the two.
